Ok, I admit that I never quite got over him. There's this guy who was in the same class with me for 2 years in the junior high. That was an elite class, admission strictly on merits, but somehow he had a rich dad and he was the "ring leader" of a school yakuza gang...I don't know if the latter got anything to do with his admission with poor academics, but the rest was history. So there he was and much to my initial annoyance he happened to sit next to me. I even threw an A4 sized text book on his face much to the surprise of his entourage and himself - imagine no one touched a yakuza, let alone their leaders! So I guess he was surprised but appreciated my courage. But I was won over because after he got hit he just brushed it aside and did not lose his composure at all. A true gentleman he was - imagine again how many boys in his position would be absolutely provoked.
He's got a medium sporty build and played basketball very well. Because he had no competitor in that sense given the rest of the boys in the class were all nerds, typically "petty intellectuals" like those the elders loved to mock "couldn't even restrain a chicken with their two hands", I bet this yakuza boy had a million admirers. So in the school sports season, he led a basketball team with abundant drooling onlookers. I also went to watch his game once or twice and absolutely fell in love with his performance. Not that it's got anything to do with the story here - in fact, there's no story. So yea, like many others, I had a secrete crush on him. But shortly after I found out that I had this crush, he started an official relationship with one of my best friend in primary school. Absolutely unexpected. I had crushes on other boys after that, you know, the safe, bespectacled, academically brilliant ones who might have a spur of whimsical humour (that didn't happen so often though) given I was always unfortunately enough to be among them. But this yakuza boy was always one of my favourite. Oh, and like I he loved sports and did not wear glasses. I dreamt of him yesterday, hence this devoted post.
